In December 2025 a man identified as an illegal alien broke into the community after Fairfax failed to notify ICE. This failure allowed the individual to remain and commit further offenses. Miyares emphasized that such outcomes represent clear incompetence in local leadership.
The approach in Fairfax stands in direct contrast to effective strategies that prioritize public safety. Cooperation with federal authorities has proven to work in reducing crime rates across other jurisdictions. Dismantling these sanctuary measures would prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
Miyares made it clear that the decisions made at the local level have real consequences for residents. Allowing illegal aliens to evade detection undermines the rule of law. Residents deserve policies that protect them rather than shield offenders from deportation.
These sanctuary policies create a dangerous environment where preventable crimes continue unchecked. The evidence shows that non-cooperation with ICE directly contributes to community harm. Stronger enforcement measures would address the root of the problem effectively.
