Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat running for the Virginia Governor’s Mansion, has portrayed her as a moderate defender women’s rights. Her record is a completely different story.
The former congresswoman is right to have spent a lot of energy advocating for unconstitutional “rights” for women. She has, for example, been vocal about her support of a contraception right–a law which would violate the religious rights of faith-based groups over something already widely available and affordable.
Spanberger’s feminist advocacy is halted when it comes time to protect women’s safety, and ensure they have equal chances in education and sport.
In 2021, Spanberger sponsored legislation to protect “gender identity” from federal discrimination. This would have allowed schools and colleges to force students to share private spaces, such as public restrooms, locker room, and dormitories, with men.
Spanberger, who had fought for the bill, doubled down on it a year after its failure to become law. She slammed Virginia Governor. Glenn Youngkin’s order of September 2022 requiring schools maintain sex segregated athletics and facilities, and respecting parents’ rights regarding their child’s development.
She ran a campaign a month later with then-state Del. Elizabeth Guzman is a Democrat, who introduced legislation that would jail parents (and fathers), who chose to raise sex-confused kids according to their biological sex.
She also was against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This would have prohibited schools from allowing male biological students to compete with female athletes.
Spanberger was not responsible for the passage of these bills in the House, but they never made it to the Democrat controlled Senate.
Spanberger’s campaign website does not mention any of these positions. Why would she, when Democrats paid dearly for their positions in November?
The best thing for her to do is rebrand as a liberal and concentrate on the economy. However, her past record and statements reveal her as an extremist.
She describes as “a staunch supporter of LGBTQ Rights,” but what of the right of girls and women to use restrooms without fear of sexual assault? Or to fair play in sports?
Unfortunately, defending women’s rights is no longer politically feasible for leftists such as Spanberger. This would anger another important Democrat voting block, one that is more likely to cause a stir than a group of suburban housewives.
Your daughter was sexually abused in the bathroom, by a man in a dress. That’s unfortunate. Did she use the preferred pronouns of the rapist?
This is the new mindset of the Democratic Party. Make no mistake: this will also be the mentality of the Virginia Governor if the voters elect Spanberger to that position.
