Virginia’s motto “Sic Semper Tyrannis” or “Thus Always to Tyrants” declares that virtue, justice and good governance will always triumph over tyranny. Virginia’s Democrat leaders are now the tyrants.

Leading by Gov. Abigail Spanberger and her team ignore the Constitution, use the budget, and spend hard-earned tax dollars on DEI pork (diversity equity and inclusion).

On July 1, some the most extreme laws in Virginia’s past will come into effect. By adopting anti-Second Amendment legislation, Democrats have consolidated their long-held goal of disarming legal citizens. Budget negotiations were also used to implement dangerous marijuana legislation that was not passed during the regular legislative session.

The final biennial budget, which is stuffed with pork, totals $207 Billion. This is a $24 Billion increase over 2024. The state has approximately 6.7 million adults aged 18 or older, which is $3,880 per adult more than the former governor. Glenn Youngkin’s budget.

Sen. Louise Lucas’ Pot Shops

Louise Lucas, chair of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee, has been claiming for weeks that she would not approve the budget until tax breaks were eliminated. Lucas went on a ‘data center listening tour’ across the state and referred to Spanberger a a ‘data center diva. When the final bill, which was agreed upon, was released, the exemption from tax remained, along with 149 pages of new legislation authorizing the retail sale of marijuana.

Lucas, who owns a marijuana shop in Portsmouth, has been advocating the legalization for marijuana since years. She changed her mind about data center tax exemptions after the marijuana legalization was included in budget bill.

In the new budget, all data centers in the state will continue to receive a tax break of approximately $1.9 billion. Lucas’ original request for a lower energy tax on data centers was not met. She is happy that she will be able sell pot legally in her retail shop.

Lucas opened a pot shop in Virginia, but the Virginians paid the bill and suffered the consequences.

Democrat Pork Projects

Virginia Democrats not only gave themselves a big raise in budget but also spent hundreds millions of dollars on pet social justice projects and pet projects.

The amended budget includes over $40 million for the implementation of Lucas’ marijuana law.

The part-time legislators voted for a 178 per cent raise, from $18,000 to $50,000 per year. This is an additional $2.1 million in expenses for Virginia taxpayers. The per diem for travel, the staff expenses and any other extras are on top of this.

The state government, which was already overstaffed, has added 64 new employees at a cost exceeding $18.5 million. Plus, an increase of $3.5 million in salary for attorneys at the office of Attorney General Jay Jones-the guy that fantasized about killing his political rival and wished to kill his children.

The Virginia Medicaid FAMIS Prenatal coverage for pregnant and postpartum immigrant persons program will be restored with $77.1 million. According to the website, this program uses taxpayer funds for illegal immigrants’ health coverage.

The taxpayer money is based on race. For example, $3 million will be spent over the next two years “to attract out-of-state visitors from Black, Indigenous and Hispanic Communities.” One million dollars was also allocated to the Museum of Black Women Innovators, a private organization located in Portsmouth-Lucas.

Virginia will allocate $3.6 million in scholarships over the next two years to institutions with at least 25% of students who identify as Hispanic and have a certain accreditation.

The state will spend $60 million to provide childcare to state employees. This includes $35 million to continue work on “a new state agency building” and a childcare center for state employees. ”

Below are a few examples of the new items added to the budget.

Social Services

• The “Virginia Eviction Reduction Program”, which covers “the costs for households facing eviction,” will receive an additional $11,500,000, totaling $322.662,101.
• The Virginia Housing Trust Fund will be increased by $60 million, bringing the total to $215 million for the biennium. This money is to “address issues of housing affordability, availability, and homelessness.” Of that $20 million, “loan origination activities and loan servicing for mixed-income housing” will be funded.
• A total of $325.162,101 will be spent on an additional $14,000,000 to “serve Virginians who are at risk or already experiencing homelessness”. The City of Charlottesville will receive $7 million for the “development of a life skills and transitional housing facility”
• Prince William County to receive $5 million in “Affordable housing Fund”
• SNAP will cost Virginians more than $135 million this year, an increase of $4 million from the budget for last year.
• Families in need will receive a block grant of $4 million to help them access “long-acting, reversible contraceptives” and other contraceptives.
• The cost of school breakfasts will increase by $8.6 millions a year.
• There is no additional cost, but the ratio of staff to children in licensed child care centers will increase.
• Fairfax and Prince William Counties will receive $1.5 million to improve workforce development and create “new training spaces” for members of the immigrant communities.
• The $100,000 will be used to “provide legal and service support to the refugee and immigrant population in South Richmond, North Chesterfield and South Richmond.”

Energy and Environment

• Training resources for Virginia offshore wind workers will receive $300,000 in two years.
• The “Clean Energy Innovation Bank” will receive $10 million in two years.
• The Commonwealth of Massachusetts will receive $100 million to “finance improvements in environmental monitoring.”

Education

• Department of Education to spend $5.1 million on a learning management system for the entire state.
• Additional $950,000 per annum for PBS Appalachia

Civic and Government Administration

• The Commission on Civic Engagement will receive $10,000 to create a website that will promote the annual Civic Education Summit.
• The Electronic Registration Information Center, which includes the Electronic Registration Information Center, will receive $247,500 in two years.
• The relocation of three monuments and memorials to Gen. Thomas “Stonewall Jackson”, Gov. William Smith and Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire.
• The increase in state minimum wage is reflected by $3.3 million.
• $35 million to “support the implementation of retail cannabis markets”

Local Projects

• Two golf tournaments worth $3.5 million, including the LIV tournament to be held in Gainesville Virginia, 2027.
• The City of Petersburg will receive $1.4 million to “support the creation of an aquaponics education and research facility, as well as a food production facility.”

Sic Semper Tyrannis is a warning to those who claim to be its servants that power unchecked will one day be used against them. Instead of providing relief to Virginians the Democrats are raiding their pockets and forcing through sweeping reforms that could not survive the regular legislative sessions.

Democrats have opted for a socialist agenda rather than fiscal restraint, and used the budget process to make laws instead of appropriations. Was that what Virginians voted for in November?
