This election proved that despite the divisions in America, most Americans are of one mind: only U.S. citizens can vote in U.S. presidential elections.
This week, voters in eight states — Idaho Iowa Kentucky Missouri North Carolina Oklahoma South Carolina and Wisconsin — approved constitutional amendment questions that would prevent noncitizens from voting in state and local election. Foreign nationals have already been barred from voting at federal elections.
In a recent phone interview, Will Martin of Citizens for Citizen Voting told The Federalist that the united states is divided. But on Tuesday, Republicans, Democrats, and independents came together to declare that only citizens will be allowed to vote.
According to unofficial results, the Citizen-Only Voting Amendment in Badger State (COVA) received support from over 70 percent of voters during Tuesday’s elections. Unofficial results from state news agencies show that support for COVA questions topped 65 per cent in all states. In Iowa, 76 per cent of voters supported the referendum. The South Carolina ballot question was approved by a staggering of 86 percent.
The same ballot issue that amends the state constitution so only citizens are allowed to vote in Show Me State election also eliminated ranked choice voting with a 2:1 margin.
COVA supporters felt confident before Election Day. However, Wisconsin was the biggest challenge. Jack Tomczak is the vice president for Citizen Outreach for Americans for Citizen Voting. He told The Federalist the amendment was facing “well-funded opposition” led by the League of Women Voters. Over three dozen leftist organizations lent their names, and resources, to a campaign to defeat the referendum.
Martin claimed that opponents had falsely warned voters about military personnel not being able to participate in Wisconsin elections, if the amendment was passed.
In Idaho, Democrat legislators claimed that noncitizens may be prohibited from voting in private election, such as homeowner associations and parent teacher associations elections. These amendment ballot questions have nothing to do either with these races or federal election laws.
‘Being Diminished’
The media accomplice, as well as the opponents, have pushed a false narrative that foreigners voting in elections are almost non-existent, and that Wisconsin’s constitution and other state constitutions already prohibit non-citizens to vote.
NBC News , the mouthpiece of the Democratic Party, reported in this week.
Malarky, to quote the outgoing acting president Joe Biden.
As The Federalist has reported, the vast majority state constitutions contain language that states “every” citizen who meets age and residency requirements are eligible to vote. The amendments require that only U.S. Citizens who meet the criteria are eligible to vote.
The COVA opponents insist that there is no difference. The word “every” opens the door for noncitizens to be allowed to vote at state and local levels, as it is in California and Vermont.
Frederick, Maryland became the first city in Maryland that allowed noncitizens vote in their elections in September. The Board of Aldermen approved the vote 4-1 by giving green card holders and illegal immigrants voting rights. Kelly Russell was one of the lone dissenting votes.
She told Fox45 News that she had spoken to many people, including those who have worked hard to obtain their citizenship to be able to vote, who did not agree with this. They felt that all their hard work was being undermined.
Takoma Park in Maryland has allowed foreigners to vote at local elections for over 30 years. Twelve Maryland municipalities allow non-citizens to vote. The state constitution does not prohibit them from doing this.
‘Common Sense Movement’
Wisconsin’s legislative Democrats have voted in bloc to reject resolutions that would take the citizen-only Amendment to the voters. They insist that illegal voting by noncitizens is not a problem, but it is. Non-citizens voted in U.S. election and thousands of them have appeared on the state voter rolls during this election cycle.
While it is a felony for foreign nationals to vote in U.S. elections, incidents are difficult to track and for many prosecutors. It is illegal for foreigners to vote in U.S. election, but it’s difficult to track incidents and they are not a priority to many prosecutors.
The Federalist reported in September that Paige Terryberry is a senior research fellow with the Foundation for Government Accountability . The Biden-Harris Administration is currently registering voters at DMVs, public housing, Healthercare.gov, and other locations. They are not verifying citizenship. States can also act, but the SAVE Act will fix the problem nationally before the election.”
Every illegal vote reduces the number of eligible voters.
According to Ballotpedia, since 2018, fourteen states added or voted to include citizenship requirements in their constitutions.
Martin said that Wisconsin, a swing state, is a state with a 50-50 split. This was evident in former President Donald Trump’s win by just over 28,000. Martin noted that the ballot question was a majority in 71 out of 72 counties.
The COVA advocate stated that the issue is part a sea-change in America and a return of basic values.
Martin stated that there is a growing movement towards common sense in the United States. “People are tired that people try to interpret for them. People are tired to be told what to believe.”
