The board members involved include Chair Sandy Anderson, Karl Frisch of Providence District, Melanie Meren of Hunter Mill District, Rachna Sizemore Heizer of Braddock District, Mateo Dunne of Mount Vernon District, Seema Dixit of Sully District, Kyle McDaniel, and the rest of the Democrat-dominated panel overseeing Fairfax County Public Schools. Rather than prioritizing the 180,000 students or the hardworking educators on the front lines, these officials allegedly funneled taxpayer dollars to political cronies. Notable hires include a campaign manager for Kyle McDaniel and the vice chair of the Fairfax County Democrat Committee for Rachna Sizemore Heizer—positions requiring only a bachelor’s degree but commanding salaries exceeding those of experienced teachers.
This scandal didn’t come to light through voluntary transparency but through relentless pursuit by activist Mark Woods. Leaked emails revealed the secret deliberations, prompting Woods to file Freedom of Information Act requests. When the board stonewalled, he sued in circuit court. Shockingly, the board’s own counsel testified under oath that no such approval occurred. Yet, an internal FCPS document later confirmed the truth: ‘The Board approved this action at a closed meeting in February 2025.’ This blatant violation of Virginia’s open meetings law exposes the arrogance of unchecked Democrat power in Fairfax County.
Woods confronted the board directly at a public meeting held at the Mark Center, where video footage captures the tense exchange. None of the members would submit a simple freedom of information request or acknowledge the self-dealing. The superintendent, Michelle Reid—whose own salary exceeds $424,000 with perks like a $12,000 car allowance—claimed ignorance, admitting she wasn’t even consulted on decisions that ballooned administrative bloat. Meanwhile, 44 central office administrators rake in over $200,000 each, totaling more than $187 million for just 1,572 bureaucrats, while 275 teaching positions were cut this year.
This isn’t isolated greed; it’s symptomatic of a failing system under Democrat control. Fairfax County Public Schools has lost 6,894 students since 2015—the largest enrollment drop in Virginia—driving parents to private schools (enrollment doubled since 2019) and homeschooling (statewide surge from 38,000 to 66,000). One in four students fails reading, math, and science SOL exams, with 40 schools—20% of the district—flagged as underperforming. Despite spending $22,644 per student (more than average private school tuition), classrooms are packed with 25 kids while administrators thrive.
The board’s priorities are clear: protect their own, ignore parents, and demand more taxes while claiming ‘underfunding.’ Promotions like elevating Kyle McDaniel—facing an active lawsuit for allegedly embezzling $175,000, misusing funds at strip clubs, and scheming to steal airplanes—to vice chair of the budget committee underscore the corruption. No investigations, no resignations, just Democrat protection rackets.
Fairfax parents and taxpayers deserve better. With the next school board election in November 2027, it’s time to end this one-party fiefdom. Demand accountability, support challengers committed to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and putting students first. Virginia’s open meetings laws exist for a reason— to prevent exactly this kind of insider dealing. Share this story far and wide; the reckoning is coming.
