Restoration News published in June 2024 about woke ideologues who were in a North Carolina school and suspended Christian McGhee because he used the term “illegal Alien”. McGhee’s parents filed a suit against the district, and recently, their attorney announced that the McGhees had reached a settlement.
Central Davidson High School has suspended Christian after he asked a clarification question about a class assignment. He questioned if the teacher meant to say “space alien” (aliens from outer space) or “illegal alien”. The school said that this was a “racially-motivated” comment intended to disrupt the class.
Christian was forced to leave school after he and his family were branded racists. According to reports, the chair of the school board sent a false allegation via text message to a senator informing him that Christian was expelled from several schools and his mother had an extensive history of harassment. The family refused to back down, and instead sued the district for violating Christian’s rights of free speech, education and due process.
On July 1, 2025 the McGhees won a major victory when the court approved a settlement in which the Davidson County Schools issued a formal apology, cleared Christian’s records, and paid the family $20,000 for Christian to cover private school tuition. The McGhees were elated with their victory, saying, “Together, we have proven that constitutional rights don’t end at the schoolhouse door.” They added, “We hope it will encourage other families to remain firm in the face adversity.”
Next, the board of education will vote on the agreement at its next meeting in August.
The incident caught the attention of Donald Trump, who was then a candidate. Trump sent Christian an letter commending him as a patriot who upholds “our God given rights despite the consequence.”
The McGhee’s family fight shows how standing up against the woke bullies benefits the rights to free speech of all students.
