The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights informed Prince William County Schools on February 12 that it had opened an investigation into the allegations made by conservative America First Legal Foundation. The foundation filed a formal complaint on February 3, alleging discriminatory policies in four Northern Virginia school divisions, including Prince William.
The group is concerned that school divisions are allowing students to use bathrooms and locker rooms according to their gender identity rather than their sexuality, which they claim violates Title IX as well as Trump’s order “Ending radical indoctrination”.
The complaint claims that transgender children are given “greater” rights than other students when they can use facilities that correspond to their gender identity and not their biological sex. According to ProPublica, the complaint requested that the federal department of education investigate despite stopping thousands of other investigations.
