Abigail Spanberger, a former Virginia state representative, calls herself a bipartisan lawmaker who is willing to break from her party in order to “get things accomplished” or at least win the tight race for Virginia governor this November. This same “bipartisan lawmaker was complicit with Democratic leaders over 90 percent of the time and failed to lead an issue that most Americans support — securing the nation’s borders.
Spanberger, who was elected to Congress as a partisan in 2018, quickly became a foot soldier opposing President Donald Trump’s America First Immigration policies. Trump called MS-13 members who were deported after committing crimes such as illegally entering the U.S., “animals” during a roundtable discussion on California’s sanctuary laws. Spanberger blasted these comments as ” Bigotry“. She rallied her supporters to oppose the administration and defend murderous gangs. She posted on social media that the President was using illegal immigrants to ” pawns ” and that the detention of illegal immigrants and their children is ” unbearably cruel.”
Spanberger voted in favor of legislation that banned removal proceedings for undocumented migrants, and she co-sponsored a measure that limited the President’s power to ban illegal aliens entering the United States. In February 2019, Spanberger voted to terminate a national emergency declaration related the migrant invaders on the U.S. Mexico border. She then voted to override Trump’s veto.
The veto was not overridden, and the national emergency will remain in effect until it is repealed just minutes after Joe Biden’s inauguration as president on January 20, 2021.
The Spanberger Biden Border Crisis comes to Virginia
Spanberger did not offer any solutions to the border crisis, as the Biden administration rolledback Trump’s immigration policies. Spanberger criticized the Republican Secure the Border Act in 2023 as a ” partisan bill“, voting against the legislation which funded border wall construction, increased detention centers, required citizens verification for employment and limited asylum eligibility. In 2024 Spanberger redoubled his efforts, voting against legislation that would reduce federal funding for sanctuary cities, and the bipartisan Laken Riley Act that requires the detention or illegal immigrants arrested or charged with crimes, even those resulting in fatality.
Spanberger endorsed Kamala Harris, the failed border czar for president, and refused to back a resolution condemning the Biden-Harris Administration for its open borders policies. Spanberger voted to oppose overburdened Border Patrol and law enforcement officers, whom she swore an oath of protection. Virginians, under the leadership Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Lt. Governor Winsome Sears have seen over 500 arrests of illegal immigrants–including 132 identified as gang members of MS-13 and Tren de Aragua.
The Youngkin Sears administration issued executive orders directing the state law enforcement agencies in Virginia to work with Trump’s new administration on removing the illegal threats to public safety from the commonwealth. This is an expectation Virginia voters hold, but one Abigail Spanberger won’t meet.
