Virginia High School League, which initially voiced its opposition to President Trump by saying that boys would be allowed to participate in girls’ sports but then changed their tune.

Before President Trump’s February 5th Executive Order, which requires schools to align sports teams based upon biological sex (as opposed to gender identity), the VHSL allowed transgender athletes compete on high-school sports teams based on their choice of gender. Boys could play on girls’ teams, and vice versa. The school district could ban this practice for their teams, but they would be forced to play an opponent who had a mixed-gender team or forfeit the game.

Trump’s executive orders rescind “all funds” from educational programs which deprive girls and women of fair sporting opportunities. This results in humiliation and silence of girls and women, as well as their privacy.

The Virginia High School League is the governing body for high school sports in Virginia. The executive board is made up of representatives of member school districts, voting members of the Virginia School Boards Association and the PTA as well as two members of the General Assembly. The governing board is responsible for the policy of the league.

The VHSL announced to WVEC news on February 7th that their policy would not change, a clear indication that they were defying the order of President Trump. The VHSL is funded by taxpayers in Virginia and many districts are represented on the VHSL Board.

On February 10th, the VHSL gave in to public pressure and reversed its course. They voted to follow Trump’s executive orders “Keeping Men out of Women’s Sports.”

Virginia Democrats Oppose Protection of Girls

Virginia’s radical Democrats control the state legislature, despite having a Republican Governor. In November, Republicans will have the chance to regain control of the House of Delegates from the extremist Democrats and keep the executive branch. If Democrats continue to do this, they will continue to put girls’ safety at risk and deny them the Title IX benefits that they have worked so hard to achieve.

Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project said that “apparently Democrats still haven’t gotten the signal from last November’s elections–the American public is done with Left-wing gender insanity.” Winsome Sears, Jason Miyares, and the rest of Virginia’s future are in their hands if Democrats continue to push this nonsense. Sears is a Republican candidate for Virginia Attorney General and Sears is a Republican candidate for Virginia Governor in the November elections.

Abigail Spanberger was a Virginia Democrat 2023. She voted in opposition to when she served in Congress. She also voted against Gov. Youngkin’s 2023 model policies that require athletic participation by gender to be separated.

Spanberger did not respond to a Restoration News question about her stance regarding biological boys competing with girls. She told and other outlets the VHSL would be the one to determine the rules in this matter. Spanberger cannot hide from radical Democrats with whom she aligns because Virginia Democrats do not support the idea of girls’ rights being protected.

Virginia Senate Democrats killed Republican Bill, which would have prohibited biological boys from participating in girls’ sport. If Spanberger was concerned about protecting girls, then she would oppose this legislation. But she won’t. She cannot claim to be moderate when she aligns herself with a party so radical. If she were elected governor, Spanberger would undoubtedly sign the radical agenda of the Democrats into law.

Republicans Stand up for Girls’ Sport

Before the VHSL agreed to ban boys from girls’ sports in the Commonwealth, Republican politicians across that Commonwealth supported President Trump’s efforts to protect girls’ sport. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin stated that the VHSL must “change course immediately.” Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears echoed Youngkin’s statement, saying that “every woman athlete deserves an equal playing field – this is non-negotiable.”

It is clear that there is a difference between the political parties in terms of who is willing and able to protect young girls. Democrats want Title IX to be wiped out, while Republicans are fighting to protect these civil rights.
