A payment of $4,100 was made by the Historic Triangle Democrats to Grace Carryer on June 25, 2026. Carryer, a government and history major at William and Mary and president of the college’s Young Democrats, serves as field director for the group’s No on Wittman campaign. This effort targets U.S. Representative Rob Wittman, the Republican who has represented Virginia’s First Congressional District since 2007.
Carryer previously worked on the House of Delegates campaign of Jessica Anderson. Anderson, a Democrat, defeated Republican incumbent Amanda Batten in the 2025 election for the 71st District, which covers parts of James City County, New Kent County, and the city of Williamsburg. The Historic Triangle Democrats have directed substantial funds to Anderson’s campaign, totaling $12,965 according to state records.
The local Democratic committee has also contributed to other Democratic candidates and causes. These include $10,000 to Mark Downey for Delegate, $4,000 to Virgil Thornton for Delegate, $2,000 to Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor, $2,000 to Jay Jones for Attorney General, and $2,000 to Abigail Spanberger for Governor. Additional donations went to the Democratic Party of the First Congressional District, the Democratic Party of Virginia, a James City County supervisor candidate, a school board candidate, and the William and Mary Young Democrats.
The group operates from Williamsburg and focuses on electing Democrats across the Historic Triangle region, including Williamsburg, James City County, York County, and Poquoson. Its activities include neighborhood organizing, canvassing, literature drops, meet and greets, and postcard campaigns managed in part by Carryer. The committee maintains a website promoting its outreach and volunteer efforts tied to opposing Wittman.
Wittman has served multiple terms in Congress, focusing on defense issues, economic growth, and natural resources as a member of the House Armed Services and Natural Resources Committees. The payments from the Historic Triangle Democrats highlight ongoing Democratic financial support for challengers and organizers in districts held by Republicans.
State disclosure records show the committee’s total contributions reached $38,124 in the reported period, all directed to Democratic recipients. Carryer’s role extends her involvement from prior Democratic House campaigns into broader local party operations aimed at shifting representation in the region.
