A formal complaint has been filed against Virginia’s most corrupt school districts because of their gender-based ideology policies. These policies seem to be in violation of both Title IX as well as President Donald Trump’s Executive Order ending indoctrination at K-12 public schools in the United States.
The Trump administration has recently restored their own 2020 Title IX Regulations, protecting civil rights for women and girls at school. This ended the Biden Administration’s Title IX Rewrite, which put them in danger in schools each day. Trump signed an executive directive ( Stopping Radical Indoctrination K-12 Schooling ) which blocks federal funding to schools that encourage a “social transformation” of children, or that require staff to use “preferred pronouns”, that are not in line with the gender of students.
Virginia has some of the most corrupt school districts in the country. At least two, Loudoun County and Fairfax County, have become household names because of their support for radicalism based on gender and race. America First Legal, using these two directives of the Trump Administration, has targeted Northern Virginia School Districts of Loudoun Fairfax Arlington and Prince William Counties as well as the City of Alexandria. They have requested that the Education Department conduct an investigation into their actions.
In a press release, Ian Prior, AFL senior adviser, stated that “School districts in Northern Virginia are leading the charge against science and reality by eliminating sex based rights and rewriting law to give preference to students who claim they are ‘transgender.’ If those school districts continue to enforce unworkable and insane policies, then they should lose federal funding. The President has stated that the lawlessness in these school districts must stop. They must comply with the law, or suffer the consequences.
AFL claims that all five school districts have policies regarding bathroom and locker rooms which violate Title IX as well as the executive order. This is because the policies allow students to use bathrooms based on their “gender identity”, rather than the actual sex of the student. For example, boys can use the girls’ restrooms, and girls are allowed to strip in front boys in the locker room, provided they claim to be female.
The school districts could lose federal funding if they are found to be in violation of Title IX. These districts are some of the most populous and home to a large number of government employees in Virginia.
Arlington County required that “access to the facilities that correspond with a student’s gender identity… be available to every student,” which was a policy . AFL notes. When “a male sexual offender exposed his private parts to a nine-year-old girl in the girls’ locker room,” it was a rule .
Some school districts like Alexandria City have policy which puts the responsibility on students who want to use the restrooms of their choice without having to worry about running into someone of the other sex. According to the policy, students who are uncomfortable using facilities with people of the opposite gender should find their own single-user facility as long as “minimize instructional time.”
Fairfax County’s Policy, the county with the largest population in the Commonwealth, states: “[n]o student who is gender-expansive, transgender, or gender-neutral shall be forced to use a restroom or locker room that does not match their gender identity, or be restricted to a single-occupancy facility, private area or any other facility that only allows one person to use it.”
Loudoun, Prince William, and Loudoun have similar policies. Loudoun defines as “a person’s internal feeling of their identity as a girl/woman or boy/man. It can also be a different gender, no gender at all, or something outside the binary male/female. The gender identity of an individual is a part of their identity. It can be different or the same as the sex assigned to them at birth.
Loudoun is home to the most noteworthy story of the nationwide revelations about the evils of education in 2020-2021. A Loudon County girl was sexually assaulted by a boy in a skirt at a high school in May 2021. The district attempted to cover up and the father of the girl was arrested after speaking out. This led the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to open domestic terror investigations into parents who expressed concern about their children’s safety in school.
Reed D. Rubenstein (AFL senior vice-president) said in a statement that “Leftist teachers and administrators have, under the guise of radical and divisive racial ideologies and gender ideology, abused American parent’s rights and catastrophically harmed our children.” They have used tax dollars to create an echo chamber where students are forced into accepting these ideologies with no critical thinking or questioning. Young men and women even question if they were born the wrong way and whether their parents are to blame.
