State Corporation Commission Adds Extra Public Hearings on Dominion Merger

The State Corporation Commission will hold additional in-person public-comment hearings on the Dominion-NextEra merger beyond Richmond, according to an order summarized in Cardinal News coverage of the companies' revised pledges.

November proceedings in Richmond will include public comments plus evidentiary hearings. Two further in-person sessions outside Richmond are planned at locations not yet named, expanding opportunities for ratepayers to speak.

Commissioner Samuel Towell supported the extra hearings but stressed that written and phone comments carry equal weight with in-person statements. As of mid-September the docket already held more than 800 written comments from lawmakers, localities and residents, many opposing the deal over bills and jobs.

Intervenors include Gov. Abigail Spanberger, the first Virginia governor to take that step in an SCC case, along with consumer, labor, civil-rights and local-government parties.
