John Rathbone Fuels Democratic Efforts with Latest ActBlue Gift

John Rathbone contributed $5,000 to ActBlue Virginia on August 27, 2026. This donation adds to his extensive record of financial support for Democratic causes in the state. Rathbone has previously directed over $135,000 through ActBlue Virginia in a single cycle.

Records show Rathbone has also given $70,010 to Terry McAuliffe’s campaign for governor. He contributed $27,500 to Jerrauld Jay Jones for attorney general. Additional donations include $6,000 to Andria McClellan efforts and support for other Democratic figures such as Abigail Spanberger.

Rathbone’s giving extends to committees like The Way Ahead with $35,000 and the Democratic Party of Virginia with $10,000. His employer history ties to Norfolk Southern in the railroads sector. These contributions total hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democratic recipients over recent years.

By routing funds through ActBlue Virginia, Rathbone enables support for candidates aligned with Democratic priorities. His backing of Jones for attorney general places him in alignment with that officeholder’s positions. Similar donations to McAuliffe and McClellan reflect consistent choices that align with those officials’ records.

Conservatives note that such large individual gifts to ActBlue Virginia sustain campaigns opposing Republican-led initiatives on taxes, regulation, and public safety. Rathbone’s repeated transfers to these Democratic entities demonstrate ongoing commitment to their platforms. This pattern of support raises questions about his alignment with policies advanced by the recipients of his funds.

Virginia campaign finance data confirms Rathbone as one of the top individual contributors to ActBlue Virginia. His donations to multiple Democratic candidates and committees exceed $280,000 in tracked cycles. The August 2026 gift continues this established approach to political giving.
