Kyle McDaniel is the head of the Fairfax County School Board budget committee. He was charged with embezzlement two months ago by a company with which he had been affiliated. In a complaint, filed in Loudoun County Circuit Court, McDaniel is accused of spending about $160,000 on personal expenses. These include family vacations and meals, household costs, entertainment, (including strip clubs), as well as his campaign to become the School Board’s secretary and treasurer. The lawsuit was revealed in the daily wire, on April 4.
McDaniel is yet to admit or deny the allegations. The lawsuit claims that McDaniel admitted to misusing company credit cards and accounts to pay for personal expenses in July 2024, paid $50,000 back, but continued the same conduct. The complaint alleges that when McDaniel was confronted in January this year with the same issue, he admitted it again but deleted all of his email activity.
The allegations against McDaniel may seem serious, but they have not been proven by a court. The School Board, and the public at large, should demand a quick, public, honest response to these allegations. McDaniel is unfit to oversee the $4,000,000,000 expenditures of a large public entity if he misappropriated the funds of the small corporation, as claimed. He should either resign voluntarily from the School Board, or be forced to. Even if he provides a convincing defence to the allegations, it is still necessary for him to be removed as the chair of the Board’s budget committee or from any other financial-related positions while the litigation continues.
